Is It ‘Business-Smart’ To Choose A Business Based On Your Emotions?

We’ve all been there before…girls, you’ll know what i’m sayin’ here…

You walk past a shop window, “Oooooh” you scream in side…..“Lookie at those gorgeous little (enter here – any female garment/accessory/fab new food product/latest “must have” whatever) ……“Hmmmm, i’ll just go in and take a look”.

3.5 minutes later (give or a take 2 minutes or so) you are out that door happily clutching your new possession. Minutes, hours, or sometimes days later and you are beginning to get that dreaded regret feeling in your tummy…you Knew you didn’t really ‘need‘ it, but you just HAD to HAVE it right?!

Hey now, it’s not your “fault”!…us lovely, complex, yet simple humans do basically Everything based on our Emotions.

This got me thinking about how people not only buy ‘things’, decide their careers, relate to people, animals, beings and the world around them, but also how they may enter into a new Business Opportunity.

I know this, cos i did this myself. Whilst i was working as an employee back a couple years ago, (my last ‘job’ was as a SignWriter/Graphic Designer/Store Artist for a very popular chain of organic & ‘Wholefood’ stores) I was hit with a massive craving to ’start my own little business’. Awesome i thought, I’m super creative, i can make stuff, i can “art” baby!…i’ll design jewellry and accessories and sell them online! Everyone would always comment on my creations whenever i wore them around, so they are bound to do super well. I will make loads of money from this!

Oh deary deary me! Yes, that venture was a wonderful lesson in humility for me! I hardly sold anything…(well, my Mama was my best customer of course! She always supported my crazy ideas…think they reminded her of herself) ….Although i never lost ‘faith’ and my vision of it being a huge success. It was a great learning experience.

The biggest lesson i learnt from all this was that you can have the loveliest, sexiest, Hottest Product or Website, and the very highest, best of Intentions to make it a Success….BUT to have an online anything (business, product, website, etc) you’ve gotta know how to Market Online. Yes, Internet Marketing is the most important skill i could have acquired if i was to really have any chance at ALL, of having Succes with my business.

And so that i did.

I now have the Internet Marketing skills and know-how, to market and promote absolutely anything my little Heart so desires!

And this I managed to do, by choosing to enter a Business using not just my Emotions, but also my head aswell. Sometimes, we’ve just gotta be Practical. ;) But the funny thing is, that by doing this ‘practical’ thing, it’s now swung full circle, back to giving me the Choice and Option to market and promote all the things that i didn’t have the knowledge to do before.

With the way the internet is growing…..it really is a very wise choice to gain some Online knowledge. Internet Marketing is where it’s all heading.

Perhaps you’ve been through a similar situation? What was it and what did you learn from it?

Please share your thoughts with us and the community…we’d love to hear from you :)

Great post Jess. Hmm, I did the same thing….but in reverse! Had this BRILLIANT plan, did all the research, business plan etc and managed to persuade my nice friendly bank manager that it was, indeed, a brilliant plan….bought a 40ft yacht for charter in Finland, even had a few paying clients lined-up then made the FATAL mistake of spending a few weeks on her and my heart overruled my head….fell head-over-heels in love with her and didn’t want to share her with strangers. Mind, we have a wonderful holiday home with an all round sea view in one of THE most beautiful places in the whole wide world so maybe letting one’s emotions take over on some occasions, even when it comes to business, isn’t so bad….some things are priceless, for everything else there’s Mastercard….. :)
